How do I read guitar Sheet music?

It's worth checking out www.power-tab.net - this has the useful ability to play guitar tablature back to you. Plus you can download other people's tabs (copyright issues of course there). I found it very useful. Also search ';powertab'; in google for more info. How do I read guitar Sheet music?
OK- there are esentially 3 kinds of guitar music. First is the traditional guitar/vocal music, which has a melody line with words, and chord symbols (usually with a symbol showing the fingering). In that case, use the fingering guide to figure out what strings to depress with what finger (x means don't strum that string, o means leave it open)

2nd is tablature, which is actually a representation of the strings and the individual notes drawn out. It's not easy to learn, and should be taught by a decent guitar teacher.

3rd is standard sheet music written out for guitar. It is relatively complicated, and known to virtually every music teacher on the planet. They can help you figure out the notes, whether they teach guitar or not.

Bottom line- a website can't teach you to read music. But a good teacher can get you started. Good luck!

The lines from bottom to top: E(very), G(ood), B(oy), D(oes), F(ine). Or 'deserves fudge.' Whichever you like better. The spaces from bottom to top: F-A-C-E The chord markings over the bar are either letters, or a little picture of a guitar fingerboard. Hope that helped.
